This year, the Gears of War franchise is going back to where it all started, but not in the way fans might expect. Gears of War: E-Day is a full prequel, built from the ground up, and it is set to deliver a much grittier, more survival-focused experience than the last few entries. The game is not a remaster or a spin-off; it is a complete reimagining of the series' core combat and tone, using the latest Unreal Engine 5 technology to create a level of visual detail and destruction that has never been possible before.

The story centers on the first day of the Locust invasion, a pivotal moment in the lore that has only ever been referenced in passing. The campaign is designed to feel like a horror-tinged war story, where the enemy is overwhelming, and survival is not guaranteed. The Coalition has confirmed that the game will launch on PC and Xbox Series X/S, and it will be available on Game Pass from day one.
