Capcom has revised its financial projections upward for the 2025 fiscal year, driven by stronger-than-expected sales of Resident Evil Requiem. The Japanese publisher now expects net sales of $1.22 billion, an increase of 2.8% from its previous forecast, with net income rising 6.9% to $342 million.
Resident Evil Requiem has sold seven million copies worldwide, making it the fastest-selling entry in the franchise's history by a significant margin. In the United States, the game has already entered the top five best-selling Resident Evil titles of all time, trailing only Resident Evil 5, the Resident Evil 4 remake, Resident Evil Village, and the original Resident Evil 4, according to Circana data. The game also earned strong critical reception with an 89 Metacritic score and an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating on Steam.
Separately, Capcom's new intellectual property Pragmata sold one million copies in its first two days, with early indicators pointing to a strong second week as well.
Both the Tomb Raider and Resident Evil franchises are celebrating their 30th anniversaries this year. Both series debuted on the original PlayStation, both have new games out this year, and both are receiving fresh Hollywood attention. Tomb Raider has a high-profile Amazon television series coming from Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, while Resident Evil is getting a new film from Zach Cregger, director of Weapons.
But there is a key difference between the two. Thirty years of Tomb Raider represents a comeback for Lara Croft, and not her first one. Resident Evil, however, has never gone away. It has consistently grown and sustained its audience across three decades. Over the past ten years, it has become the standout leader in its genre. Few franchises as old as Resident Evil have achieved such a feat.
This reflects Capcom's strength in maintaining and innovating within its series. It also speaks to the company's focus on what it does well. Capcom knows its audiences. Across Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Monster Hunter, it has maintained reliable, strong franchises supported by a solid technology base that appeal across generations. These games continue to grow by not losing sight of core fans while remaining open to new ones.
