PlayStation Studios CEO Herman Hulst confirmed to staff this week that the company is reversing its recent trend of porting major single-player titles to PC. In an internal memo, Hulst stated that going forward, the company's flagship narrative-driven games will remain exclusive to PlayStation consoles. This marks a significant departure from the strategy seen over the last few years, where hits like "God of War" and "The Last of Us Part I" arrived on PC years after their console debuts.
According to sources familiar with the announcement, the decision stems from a desire to preserve the value of the PlayStation ecosystem. Hulst reportedly emphasized that the core business relies on hardware sales and the subscription service, and that releasing single-player games on PC diluted the incentive for players to buy a console. The new policy will apply to all future first-party story-focused releases, though live-service games and multiplayer titles may still see PC versions.
The news has sparked debate among gamers. Some applaud the move as a way to keep PlayStation's identity strong, while others criticize it as anti-consumer. Industry analysts note that Sony's PC ports were profitable, but the company appears to believe the long-term health of the platform outweighs short-term revenue from PC sales. No official public statement has been made yet, but the internal directive is now being implemented across all PlayStation Studios.
