Mistfall Hunter (PS5) Review

Mistfall Hunter arrives on PlayStation 5 with a clear vision: blend dark fantasy action with extraction shooter tension. The opening hours suggest something special, with a moody atmosphere and a world that begs to be explored. But as the sessions stack up, the cracks become too wide to ignore, and what starts as intriguing quickly turns into a grind.

The core loop is simple enough. You drop into a mist-shrouded map, scavenge for gear, fight off creatures and other players, then try to extract with your loot. The problem is that the combat itself feels floaty. Hits lack weight, dodges feel imprecise, and enemy AI is predictable to the point of boredom. The few boss encounters are the highlight, but they are too rare and too short to carry the experience.

The RPG layer does not help. Character builds are shallow, with skill trees that offer minor stat bumps rather than meaningful choices. Gear rarity matters more than player skill, which pushes you toward tedious farming instead of smart play. After a dozen runs, the extraction loop becomes a chore, not a thrill. The tension that should come from risk and reward is muted because the rewards are rarely worth the risk.

There is a decent game buried here, but it needs tighter combat, deeper progression, and a reason to keep coming back. As it stands, Mistfall Hunter is a decent idea executed with a shrug. For players who love the extraction genre, it might scratch a mild itch. For everyone else, it is a pass.
