After a short break, we are back, and what a week to return to. With Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show coming up, we took a brief pause after 136 episodes, only to come back to a flood of major news. We have interesting Q1 financial results, EA officially going private, and a surprising partnership between Rockstar and Netflix.
The big story is that the first extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6 will debut on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, at 3pm Eastern Time. The video will hit YouTube six hours later. This is the first real look at the game beyond the two trailers we have seen over the last three years. It is also the first time Netflix has hosted a video game showcase like this, even though it already offers its own games and third-party titles through its app.
Netflix is calling this reveal the next generation of storytelling and content on its platform. That is a bold statement, but with GTA 6 expected to be the biggest entertainment launch of all time when it hits PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X on November 19, this could be the start of a new trend. If this works, we might see more publishers skip traditional events and bring their biggest trailers straight to streaming services.
