A new horror roguelite has hit PC, and it is serving up something a little different. "Don't Let It Starve" is now available, blending survival tension with a bizarre collection of mini-games that feel like they were pulled from a fever dream. I got a chance to try it out, and the experience is as strange as it sounds.
The game's core hook is a bento box of interactive horrors. Instead of a single, sprawling map, you navigate through a series of short, high-stakes challenges. Two of the standout influences are clear: "Clover Pit" and "Buckshot Roulette." One moment you might be frantically trying to keep a creature fed in a cramped, claustrophobic pit, and the next you are playing a deadly game of chance with a shotgun. The pacing is relentless, jumping from one tense scenario to the next without giving you much time to breathe.
The visual style is deliberately rough and unsettling, matching the game's tone. It is not about jump scares, but about a slow-burn dread that builds as you realize the rules keep changing. Each mini-game has its own logic, and failing one can have consequences that carry over into the next. The "bento box" structure works well here, offering variety without overstaying its welcome in any single mode.
For fans of experimental horror games that mix genres, "Don't Let It Starve" is worth a look. It is short, sharp, and does not waste time with filler. The full release is out now on PC, and it is exactly as weird and stressful as you would hope.
